Check out my solo female hiking adventures in Egypt!
Well, to be honest, I didn’t complete the entire trail. But, it was the only hike I did in Egypt, so I thought it would still be cool to share! I started out from Dahab and caught a Bedouin “taxi” which is a pickup truck that offers taxi service as you’re leaving town on foot. He didn’t have a set fee and said I could pay what I felt was fair. He dropped me off at the entrance to the trail, near the seaside village and highway.
Solo Female Hiking in Dahab, Egypt
I had plenty of water and got started early in the morning, but it was pretty hard to navigate, even with Wikiloc. I followed the trail for a bit, but after a while, it was quite hard to tell exactly where it went. It was quite hot and the sun was strong, and I was alone, so I decided to just turn around and not risk it. I headed out the way I came in, walked along the coast, and walked back to town.
It wasn’t too far to walk to town, maybe around an hour or so. I stopped and got ice cream and a cold drink at the convenience store, and I enjoyed seeing other parts of the town.
Hiking Dahab Mountain
In the photos, it looks like giant piles of dirt, but in the video, you can see the splendor of the ocean from the top of the mountains.
I ended up deciding to turn around after having some fresh strawberries on the peak, to not risk the heat/sun exposure on an extremely isolated trail with very poor traction in my shoes, also because of the lack of trail markings and hard-to-follow nature of the route. So I walked back to town along the sea! It’s okay to turn around and count your successes and blessings sometimes when things don’t go according to plan, instead of forcing things and sticking them out for the sake of finishing.
Tips for Hiking Alone
In case you are curious about how to hike alone safely, here’s a great article. Compared to other places in Egypt, I didn’t have any issues. I also had a wonderful experience in Sharm El-Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula.
