Finally got to visit the Dead Sea! You can visit either from the Israel side or the Jordan side, so I decided to wait until Jordan.
The Dead Sea is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Palestine’s West Bank and Israel to the west. It is one of the world’s saltiest bodies of water, and 9.6 times as salty as the ocean! Isn’t that amazing?
While I was there, I was surprised at how extremely salty and buoyant it was! It was truly unique!
First time visiting the Dead Sea
The tour started out early after a hotel breakfast, where we drove to Wadi Mujib. There you have the chance to do a hike through a canyon with waist-deep water covering the trail. The wait was several hours so I decided to just take a photo and head to the Dead Sea instead.
The Dead Sea is extremely salty! I floated without even trying. When I tried to float on my stomach, my legs wouldn’t even go in the water. Trying to stay vertical was a challenge, and any movement sent you bobbing about. When the dead sea water dried, it left salt crystals on my skin. You could see the crystallized salt “rocks” along the edges. And of course, no visit to the Dead Sea is complete without a Dead Sea mud mask!
What to do at the Dead Sea
The tour included entrance to a resort on the Dead Sea. There were very few people there, and some chairs in the shade, so I headed down. I enjoyed some relaxing time by the sea and two floating sessions, separated by a nap and a mud facial and body treatment. The mud is in a bowl next to the beach, and you have to pay extra for that, but I figured why not?!
After that, I showered at the hotel and changed clothes, then went inside for a massive buffet. It was delicious. After that, the driver took me back to Amman.
