Solo Travel to the Holy Sites in Jerusalem

Join me on a solo travel journey to the Holy Sites in Jerusalem!

I spent one day in the Old City of Jerusalem wandering the streets and visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Garden Tomb. I took the bus there from my Airbnb in Jerusalem and wandered around using Google Maps to find these sites, which are within walking distance of each other.

Visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The church was absolutely incredible. Not only the beautiful church with incredible paintings and architecture, but the number of people praying on their knees and visiting, and of course the energy. The energy of the spot could be felt. Truly an amazing place to visit.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also known as the Church of the Resurrection, is located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. This historic church is the most sacred site for Christians worldwide, dating back to the 4th century.

… and the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem

From there, I walked over to the Garden Tomb, where Jesus was thought to be buried. Both sites are completely free to enter and do not need a ticket or reservation in advance. Within a beautifully landscaped garden center, maintained by a nonprofit organization, you can wander over to the believed tomb of Jesus. You can wait in line for your chance to stand inside.

The space inside is so small that only about 3 people can stand in there at a time. While waiting in line, someone started to play Amazing Grace on musical instruments and people in line started singing. At the exact same time out of nowhere, it started raining. I got chills. Another place where the energy is palpable.

Easter in Jerusalem

I had the good fortune to be in Israel over Easter and was able to travel to the Garden Tomb again for an Easter sunrise service. Truly incredible!
