Over the years I’ve been nomadic in a variety of different ways. Sometimes with a home base, sometimes with no home base, sometimes living out of a vehicle, etc. And for me, I think the ideal balance is having a home base to come back to, and also mixing that up with some shorter and longer trips.
Traveling is amazing, but it can lead to burnout, and I really enjoy not having to solve problems and knowing where I can do everything I need to do at home. But let’s be real, the biggest reason I like having a home base is for my friends.
Birthdays, hiking, and more…
One thing that I missed a lot during my first few years of nomadic life was having long-term meaningful friendships that I saw regularly. Yes, I had friendships that I kept in touch with online, and made in-person friends as I went, but it doesn’t compare to what I built in Monterrey during the pandemic. I’m so grateful for my amazing friends and the adventures we have had together.
Living in Mexico as an expat
Some of those adventures are captured in my few months at home between the van fire and heading to the Middle East for a few months. I got to attend the wedding of a good friend Eunice, celebrate one of my best friend’s birthdays, and celebrate my own birthday. I like to be at home in Monterrey for my birthday and the holidays, because it’s where the greatest concentration of people who love me are! And it’s the home I made for myself.
Often people ask me why I live in Monterrey, and they often guess it’s for work or school. In fact, it’s because I love hiking and that’s where my friends are. And since I work online, I can choose where I want my home base to be.
So without further ado, please enjoy a bit of footage of my pets and some of my friends. And if you want to follow along with my adventures, sign up for my monthly newsletter.
